“22 CaratS”
Art for Living
An exquisite 22 carat coffee table should not be reserved for exclusively special occasions. Jointly created by artist Mila Lights and Nathalie Ryan, this exceptional piece fully integrates art into everyday life.
If the coffee table is classically the centrepiece of the living room, the addition of 22 carat gold makes it the focal point of this convivial place.
The streamlined, curved format designed by Nathalie Ryan lends this piece its practical versatility, the surface, by artist Mila Lights, ensures its preciousness, carefully protected beneath glass.
Seen from above, the precise and sensual work of the artist in paint and gold leaf on the immaculate leather canvas makes her artistic emotion to all the guests. This desire emanates from the shared philosophy of both designers who willingly break the traditional codes of their respective worlds.
Inspired Music Scores by Mila Lights
It is not surprising to detect a certain musical element in the paintings and compositions of Mila Lights. Originally an author, composer and performer, Mila has evolved naturally over the years towards pictorial work without ever abandoning the sensuality and rhythm that characterize each of her compositions.
Working standing above her canvases, she gives free rein to the creativity of a perfectly mastered gesture. The emotion and vivacity intrinsic to her work come from the fullness of her physical investment.
The artist likes to say that she enjoys "breaking out of the frame" of the painting. She can then express herself eloquently on more everyday objects, such as the Eames armchair in her Parisian studio that Mila enjoyed sublimating with pictorial games of which only she holds the secret.
Struck by the aesthetic and narrative evidence of Castle of Paradise, a painting punctuated with poetic touches of gold on a striking white background, Nathalie Ryan chose this landmark work as the starting point for their joint creation.
Beyond Architecture with Nathalie Ryan
Working for numerous collectors, Nathalie Ryan likes to establish a dialogue between her clients' works of art and the exceptional settings that surround them, playing with the colours, materials and textures that she handles with delicacy and brio.
With Mila Lights, this is the first time she is participating in the genesis of an artwork, but it is her savoir-faire as a designer that dictates the fundamentals of 22 Carats. Set with a bronze ring whose extension ingeniously serves as the table's base, the choice of white leather as a backdrop is reminiscent of a painting’s canvas.
When Art Meets Design
The 22 Carats coffee table is a limited edition, one of seven original models assembled by the Norki workshops, a manufacturer specializing in leather and bronze that produces for prestigious design houses.
The tray of the very first model, created in gold leaf and paint by Mila Lights in the Strasbourg workshop under the watchful eye of Nathalie Ryan, will not be identically reproduced: the following six made-to-order trays will be the subject of a special artistic treatment and will all be signed by Mila Lights.
A unique piece, a work of art in its own right, a functional piece of furniture or even living room jewellery - if 22 Carats isn’t easy to categorize, all the more reason to invite this marvel into the everyday life of the home!
